Q: 1969 vw beetle, 45,000 original miles and in good condition. How much is it worth?
1969 VW Beetle, 45,000 original miles and in good condition. How much is it worth?

A: I don’t know about the mileage unless you can document it, since a 40 year old car would likely have had the spedo turn over more then a couple of times. Even in storage, there are parts of the bug that simply wear out by exposure (like rubber pieces, dashboards, headliners, etc.. )

So lets just say that it is a 69 bug in very excellent condition.

Assuming no rust.. good paint no rust…good motor… no rust… good transmission.. no rust … good interior and a good floor pan (no holes under the battery) oh, and in case I forgot to mention it , no rust…

Show cars of that vintage bring in between $12,000 and $14,000 (use eBay and search for SOLD vw bugs to get a good idea),

Extremely Good but daily driver bugs bring at least $5,000 up to about $8 unless you have a convertible in which case add about $2500 to the top end.

Hope that helps…

Q: Is there a specific ipod cassette adapter compatible with a VW Beetle?
I am an onwer of a 2002 VW Beetle and I am looking for a Ipod adapter that works with my car. I’ve tried other cassette adapters but they do not work in my car. Is there a specific adapter that I should be looking for?

A: when you put the adapter in you must press play on the radio or tape deck whatever and you press play on the ipod

if you have tried this and it still wont work see if a tape can even play on your radio

if not get a CD player with an AUX input and buy an aux cable, it has two male ends so one plugs into the ipod and one into the AUX port

if the tape does play than I am baffled sorry

Q: How much for airbag repair on a VW beetle?
The airbag indicator light on my 2000 VW Beetle indicates that my side curtain airbag (out of the leather driver seat) needs repair. Ballpark, how much will this type of repair run me? $200? $500? More?

A: It may just be a faulty sensor… Mine was. it was under warantee, so VW fixed it for free, but you might check into that.

Q: Where can I find a good quality vw beetle model car?
I want a red vw beetle convertable (cabriolet) model car, preferably with opening doors, boot and ability to open and close the roof. Anyone know where I can find good quality model cars? I can only find crappy ones so far

A: try seartching online, or if you have spare time try going to a few car places and asking around, someones boun to know or have one. or try seartching your question on google and go through websites, or just ask people. If you do go to car places i think the best ones are the places were they sell model cars or old fashioned ones.

Q: How often do I need to change the synthetic oil in my VW Beetle Turbo GLS?
I have a 2004 VW Beetle Turbo GLS. I had an oil change about 3,000 miles ago (my first one with this car) and have had the Beetle 10 months. I don’t put very many miles on it at all. I am unfamiliar with synthetic oil and was wondering how long I could wait between oil changes – someone told me 5,000 miles, any thoughts? Thank you!

A: Every 5,000 miles or at least once a year, assuming that you don’t drive at 5,000 miles in that time period. As per VW service schedule for 2004 1.8 turbo models sold in the US.

Hope this helps, a car nut.

Q: What is an original personalized license plate for a VW beetle?
I am turning 16 sunday and I know I am getting a VW beetle and my parents keep asking what I want my license plate to say. I need some original ideas! thank you for your help!

A: Flaming Pie
(it’s a Beatles reference!)

Q: how much would it cost to replace a transmission in a 66 vw beetle?
I might have to replace a transmission in a 66 vw beetle. I would like to know how much it will cost before I get myself in a financial crunch.

A: Maybe you can find one rolling around as a vehicle and get it for less than buying the transmission seperately. That is the way I would go about it. 66 or less

Q: How can I figure out the FCC ID and HLO number for my 1999 VW Beetle?
I have a 1999 VW Beetle with a Keyfob that someone super glued the covers shut. It does not work (other than the key unlocks the doors and starts the car) so I want to get another one from eBay. But people list the FCC and HLO numbers and I don’t know which one to get. Is there some place on the Beetle (computer, under dash, etc) that will give me this information?

A: 7000

Q: How do you remove the front seats from a 1966 VW Beetle?
How do you remove the front seats from a 1966 VW Beetle? How do you remove the upholstery? Some of the inside springs sound and feel loose. I want to tighten them up.

A: To remove the seats, reach under the seat and disconnect the spring that aids the seat slide to the rear. It may be missing over time. Hold the adjustment lever while sliding the seat foreward. A helper pushing from the back may be necessary. Be sure to lubricate the seat tracks with a white lithium grease prior to reinstallation, to aid in installation/adjustment.

The seat springs that feel loose may be broken. Replacement seat spring bases are available, or you can take them to a professional to have individual springs replaced. It’s not the type of job the average DIY’er can do at home.

Seat covers are held in place, for the most part by hogs rings. You should be able to get a set, complete with a special plier for installing them from the same place you bought your covers.

Q: How hard is it to find parts for a 1974 VW Beetle?
I’m considering buying a 1974 VW Beetle that has been restored for the most part. It has 130,000 original miles on it and if I bought it it would be my everyday car. I was wondering how hard it was to maintain it and how hard and costly the parts are to find.

A: Not difficult! There are lots of aftermarket parts available.
They are for the most part not even expensive. Traditionally this has been partly due to the fact that they continued to make them in Mexico and Brazil for years after they stopped here.
It’s easy to verify this by going online. You’ll see several sites that sell restoration parts.
However, VW stopped making air-cooled models for Mexico (and I think Brasil), so this situation might change a bit in the future.

Q: How do I put a front license plate on a new VW Beetle?
I bought a VW Beetle, new style, and I have a vanity plate for the front but I can’t figure out how to get the danged thing on. There are no holes or mounting brackets or anything.

A: DON’T DRILL YOUR BUMPER!!!
It’s a cosmetic issue, but if you ever decide to take the front plate off you’ll have ugly holes in your bumper. It’s cost a friend of mine almost $500 to fix those holes at a body shop.
What you need to get is a Plate Mate. They have a website.
This thing attaches without drilling into your shiny brand-new bumper. The other bug owners at the forum below (which is my regular hangout and total godsend) are raving about it.
Maybe we’ll see you at the fourm? It’s all owners showing off their buggies and trading advice :)

Q: How to replace VW Beetle 1969 Brake switch?
How to replace the brake switch of a VW 1969 Beetle which is on the master cylinder ?

A: Obtain replacement switch before removing the faulty switch. To do the job, remove the two electrical connectors (do not worry about which one went to what terminal – they are interchangeable). Unscrew the old switch, then screw in the new switch.

You probably will not have to bleed the brakes unless you have dawdled and let brake fluid run out. If after the job, the Brake pedal is soft or spongy, bleed brakes in normal manner. If you need instructions on this, then suggest you download manual from following site (would highly recommend that you do, regardless of whether the brakes need bleeding or not)

Q: How to change the splash sheild on a 2002 VW beetle?
I have a 2002 VW Beetle and I need to replace the splash sheild. Can anyone recommend a website and/or any advise on how to change the splash shield myself. Finding it kind of hard to find someone to do it at a reasonable cost.

A: The lower center one is held on by 4 screws the left and right sides push into place over a couple of studs. Its hard to do with the car on the ground (frontend sits pretty low). Good luck.

Q: Can anyone tell me what kind of problems they are having with the mexican built vw beetle?
I have a German built Golf 2002, it has not had any problems whatsoever. My wife’s car is a Mexican built New Beetle 2003, it has had many small irritating problems. I know all the New Beetles are made in Mexico. I have had a 1969 VW Bug and it had NO problems ever for 33 years solid running every day why the big upset with the New Beetle. Cars are supposed to be getting better….?

A: I purchased a Mk5 golf SE 1600cc in DEC 2005 from new, Manufactured in Belgium. The first year, the window motor packed up leaving window open, radiator leaked at bottom, all repaired under warranty, now the computer screen goes blank when ever it feels like it and a noise like a fast ticking clock inside thats annoying.I had previously purchased a Audi80 and a VW jetta for 20 years both manufactured in Germany with no faults at all.Next time I will make sure its built in Germany.

Q: Which engine will get better gas mileage for a VW Beetle?
Which engine will get better gas mileage for a 1973 VW Super Beetle?

1500cc VW engine
or
1200cc VW engine
Oh, yeah, by how much do they differ? There is a great deal on the 1500cc, but we are looking to get the most out of the engine in terms of gas mileage also.

A: 1500 would be a good choice. Check out Thesamba.com its the biggest vw forum in the world. this isnt a very good place to ask this
