Toyota Tacoma V4 2003

Q: How to lift a Toyota Tacoma?
I’m looking at buying a 2006 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab. I want to know how I can add a little height to it so its looks a little more like a 4X4 or the prerunner. In my opinion the car looks a little “soft” right now because it rides so low. I’m not looking for some big jacked up truck just a little lift. Can I accomplish this by just buying bigger tires or do I actually have to lift it? I’m only looking for about 2 or 3 inches.

A: Google toyota 5 lug lift kit. You’ll find a few kits for your smaller Tacoma.

Q: from experience is the Toyota Tacoma a good first truck?
i want to know FROM EXPERIENCE if the Toyota Tacoma would be a good first truck.

A: Absolutely. I’ve had my ‘99 Tacoma for years and never had any major problems with it. As a 4×4 they are good in the snow (beware of no ABS some years) and even better off-road. They are also lightweight and, with the V6 engine, have a towing capacity of >5000 lbs. They’re also relatively lightweight for a truck and get pretty good fuel economy. In city driving, mine gets 20+ mpg. I’ve also heard about some recalls regarding frame rust but I’ve never had any experience with this. Overall, a great first car for just about anyone!

Q: when do we get a Toyota Tacoma hybrid?
I mean really! Tacoma hybrid would be awesome! Their trucks get horrible gas mileage. I don’t need to tow a boat or concrete. I just need it for the cargo space for christmas trees, bicycles, etc…

i asked this question under car & transportation/toyota but i figured this would be a better location.

A: Toyota Corp announced they will be offering hybrid engines on ALL their vehicles, starting in 2008

Q: What is the difference between a Toyota Tacoma Prerunner and a Toyota Tacoma?
The prerunner is lifted and has a few other details, but is there any difference between the two in the cab or anything? Can you make a tacoma into a prerunner easily?

A: Prerunner models are all 2 Wheel Drive but have the ride height and suspension of the 4WD model. They’re a waste of money.

Q: Does anyone have a picture of a real OEM catalytic converter for Toyota Tacoma Prerunner 1999?
The reason I am asking because i would like to match or make sure if the Toyota Auto Body Shop put the right one. Thank you…. Please i would like to see the real Original catalytic converter for Toyota Tacoma 1999 Prerunner….. 2.7 size engine ( my truck looks like the 4×4 truck )…Thank you

A: It’s not going to look like the exact same one that came on it in 1999.

That was 11 years ago. The way they make Catalytic Converters now is different. It’s probably much smaller and does the job more efficiently.

Honestly the only thing you need to worry about is that they didn’t use reducers to make it fit. If the inlet/outlet piping is the same. You’re good to go!

Q: how exactly would i install a lift kit on a toyota tacoma?
Basically what are ALL the things that go into lifting a truck? if i buy this fab tech lift kit (#1) what else would i need to lift it?
http://www.fabtechmotorsports.com/applications/toyota/24wd95-056lug.html#qtvr
Its the Toyota Tacoma 6″ basic system
Thanks, please educated specific answers

A: this is a kit. it has everything you need to install. all u would probably need is the right tools. the manual of the kit might have a list on the tools you would need.

Q: Toyota Tacoma Prerunner or Nissan Frontier Desert-Runner?
I’m looking at two different trucks. The Nissan has the Supercharged V6, leather, sunroof and the works. It seems like a really sporty truck. An 01 to 03′
The other is an 01 to 03 Toyota Tacoma. This seems more of a sturdy truck and very reliable. Just plain cloth interior, more roomy inside and seems to be all around better built.

My plan with the truck is to drive it daily and starting soon, using it for my new part-time lawn care company this fall. Both have big beds and the V6 and extended/quad cabs. The Nissan has more power, nicer interior and drives pretty nice. The Toyota is bigger, both inside and outside.
I’ve owned both Nissan and Toyotas so I know both will get over 200k miles.
What do you think?

A: In 1996, I owned a 1993 Toyota 4 wheel drive pick-up ( what would later be called the Tacoma ). It was a tough truck with a V-6, 5 speed trans and plenty of power. In 2001, in an impulse buy, I traded that truck on a 2001 Tacoma and, while it had more power and a smoother ride than my 1993, it lacked in ruggedness. In my opinion, it was a CAR with a pick-up truck bed on it. The “velour” interior and aluminum-foil skin was too “sissyfied” to be a truck. The suspension was weak and the truck “rolled” on the suspension in the slightest of curves. I HATED the 2001 Tacoma after owning it for less than a week and learned to hate it even more until the day I sold it a little more than a year later.

In 2005, After owning a Jeep since selling my ‘01 Tacoma, I wanted a truck again. Toyota trucks were still too “stylish” ( obviously trying to market themselves to Yuppies or ladies, as “grocery getters” or to be used as “trash haulers” only ). I was never really impressed with the Ford Ranger, Chevy S-10, or Mazda mid-size pick-ups and, I didn’t need or want a full-size pick-up. That’s when I went to Nissan and saw the redesigned 2005 Nissan Frontier 4 wheel drive. The styling was remeniscent of the “hard body” styling and well equipped with a rugged interior and box. I test drove the truck and bought it the same day. The truck rides like a truck, with a comfortable but firm suspension. The 4.0 liter V-6 has plenty of power and the 6 speed trans ( unless you prefer an automatic ) is geared low enough to pull some heavy stuff from a dead stop and yet, cruise at 75 or 80 mph at roughly 2300 rpms.

I’ve had alot of people ask about my ‘05 Nissan and I tell them the same as I’ll tell you. Since my 1993 Toyota, this is the best truck I’ve ever owned and, if I knew then what I know now, I’d buy it again …. just as fast.

*** Obviously, Rajan k only read what he wanted to read in my answer before making his interpretation of what I was explaining so, I will clairify for his ( and any other’s, who may not understand ) benefit.
The 1993 Toyota pick-up truck that I owned WAS a rugged truck and stood up wonderfully to the every-day use and abuse that I subjected it to. It WAS a great truck but, that was the 1993 model, NOT the newer models currently available which dent if you lean against them and the suspension sags if you put more than 2 shovel-fulls of gravel in the bed. The 2005 Frontier that I now have is built like a TRUCK. It rides like a truck, and handles, hauls and tows like a truck.
If you want a plush car like ride and stylish, soft interior, get a Toyota. If you want a mid-size TRUCK to use for what a truck is designed to be used for, get the Nissan.

Q: What speaker sizes fit in a 2008 toyota tacoma 4×2 access cab?
Is the front speakers 6×9 and the back 6 and a half? I was looking at crutchfield, and they say that 6×9 is not compatible for a tacoma. Anyone have any experience with tacoma audio?

A: I never cared much for Crutchfields info. They are not always accurate. They are more interested in making the sell.
Go to www.metraonline.com
Enter your info in the what fits my vehicle section. They will show you everything you need including kit and harness’. Sometimes you have to make slight modifications to the mounting locations considering the factory has their speakers made for their vehicles and aftermarkets are universal fit but the size is right.

A: I have to same year truck. Mine is a V6 PreRunner. All I remember is that the V6 is about 190 horse power at 4800 rpms. It has 12inch ground clearence from the lowest point underneath. If I were you I would love to of had this truck at 16 but I bought mine new when I was 23. I wouldn’t give my truck up for anything.

Q: Toyota Tacoma?
Anyone selling an affordable Tacoma? Preferably in the South!

A: Good luck. I searched for a sanely priced Tacoma for 6 months. The price people ask for Tacomas with 100k miles is crazy. I ended up buying a new very basic model save a few bucks.

Q: Toyota Tacoma?
What are the different versions of teh tacoma. Can you get the TRD OFF ROAD version with the weaker engine? How about the smaller bed or cab? Basically i don’t know much about it so just inform me of the different packages, specifically for the 2000-2007 years.

A: i have a standard 2006 standard cab with standard features and i absolutely love it. it comes with 159 horsepower. if you are a tall guy i would suggest the extra cab at least. i am only 5′6″ and my standard cab is perfect for me.

Q: How do I disable a 2004 Toyota Tacoma?
I have a 2004 Toyota Tacoma that I want to be disabled temporarily. Anyone know how to do something easy to disable it?

A: The easest way is to remove the EFI fuse, It controles the Fuel injectors, The motor wont start.
IF you want to make it more dificult, remove the glove box and unplug the ECU, no way to get it to start then.

Q: Toyota Tacoma?
How is the gas milage, the dependability.

A: 4 cylinder manual gets 24 and 28, Auto gets 22 and 26, V^ manual gets 20 and26 while auto gets 18 and 24MPG. As far as dependability the consumer reports and Off road mag say it is number one. 4 cylinder gets 167hp and 178lbs of torque while 6 gets 260hp and 265 lbs of torque. It is as expensive as Tundra but holds value as well as lasting for 3-600,00 miles withouit major repair at least on mine which has 186,943 miles and pulls a 4000 lb boat without knowing I am towing as ride is great.

Q: Is a front end alignment required after replacing Toyota Tacoma front shocks?
Is a front end alignment required after replacing Toyota Tacoma front shocks? I notice that the shock is mounted inside the coil springs.

A: Replacing the shocks on the Tacoma will not affect the alignment much at all BUT if your truck has not been aligned for a long time maybe this would be a good time to get it done.
