Q: Need suggestion from Hyundai Sonata ‘07 GLS v/s SE?
I am in process of buying Hyundai Sonata ‘07, either GLS or SE. I need some input on some queries from this think tank to make my decision:

1) What is the actual miles per gallon I should expect if used for daily travel? We know on paper it says GLS(23/33) & SE(20/30) & I would appreciate if your can let me know your observations.

2) I heard SE have “Solar Control Glass” where as GLS don’t have. How effective are “Solar Control Glass” in hot places like Texas?

3) If am planning to keep this cars for some time like 6-8 yrs then which one is expected to be easy on maintainence cost/time? (v6 or I4)?

A: As a Hyundai dealer I can tell you the best choise for your money is the GLS.

You not only get more content, but MUCH better re-sale vaule.

Also I would recommend the V6. The I4 is somewhat underpowered – especially for highway travel.

Forget the Solar Control Glass — it doesn’t do much if anything at all– consider aftermarket window tinting

Q: Can I exchange the tires from a Hyundai Sonata to a Nissan Sentra?

Q: Is 120,000 miles to many miles to have on a 2000 Hyundai Sonata?
I’m looking for used cars. I found a Hyundai Sonata from 2000 that has 120,000 miles on it. Do you think that is to many miles? I also live where it snows very heavy during the winter? If I were to purchase this car would the 120k be ok and are these cars good enough to drive through snow?

A: That mileage equals 12,000 per year, slightly below the average. I don’t know what too many miles may be, but I think it should have more miles of life left in it. I would have a mechanic inspect the car and check the maintenance and replacement part history. With snow tires the car would be great in the snow, it is front wheel drive and doesn’t have wide tires so it naturally will be decent in snow.

Q: Why does my Hyundai sonata have a thumping noise from the back when I drive?
The noise sounds like it is coming from the back of the car. When you speed up the noise speeds up and when you slow down the noise slows down.. any ideas from anyone would really help.. I has gotten worse for the past week

A: This is definitely something that its got to do with the back wheels. The noise increases and gets reduced with the tire revolution. So.. lets think what could cause this.

If you have brake shoes in the rear, could be that you might need brake adjustment. If its pad and rotors, could be that the pad sliders are bent or simply the pads resting on the rotors while driving. Both are quick fix. If the noise is like a humming noise and increasing in intensity with speed then, is definitely a wheel bearing gone and need replacement. Other than these two potential problem I don’t see what else could cause this kind of noise.

Q: if a spring breaks inside a car door lock can i buy a replacement spring ifso where from its a hyundai sonata?

A: No the spring in the door lock actuator can’t be replaced and a genuine hyundai part can’t be ordered. Unless you get a spring out of another door lock actuator. Otherwise you will need to replace the door lock actuator assembly.

Q: Car CD player audio not working. no sound from speakers. hyundai sonata 02.?
I have a JVC CD/ MP3 player that was working perfecty fine until 2-3 days ago, when i went for an oil change and tire balance. My car is a Hyundai Sonata 2002. The CD player plays CD’s and mp3’s but there is no sound coming from the speakers. I replaced it with my older unit but still the same problem. I checked all the fuses, even under the dash and all of them seem to be ok. I don’t think all of my speakers blew out at the same time unless one blew out and the others are connected in series. Any help would be appreciated.

A: Definitely go with the Sonata. I know that KIA and Hyundai are affiliated but Hyundai has come a LONG way when it comes to building quality classy vehicles. KIA is still getting there.

I had to rent a Rio for the last month while my Mazda6 was repaired. What an awful car it was. I know the Optima is a step above the Rio but everything in the Rio just felt cheap. I would imagine it would be a similar feeling with the Optima.

The Sonata is going to come with a great warranty and it’s going to look and drive great. I had a Sonata for a rental a couple of years ago and I was super impressed with it. Good luck!

Q: hyundai sonata rear windows goes up, but not down?
I have a 1999 hyundai sonata, from the driver side window control panel I can lower the rear passenger window but not raise it. All the other windows work from the driver control panel. I can also raise/lower the rear passenger window from the switch in the rear door. Any ideas?

A: Change the door switch on the driver’s door. This is the main switch controlling entire window system. Shorted inside. I’ve seen this in the past.

Q: how to remove a power steering pump from a 1999 hyundai sonata gls 6 cylinder?

A: the easiest way is to remove the 19mm nut from the pulleyy before you take the belt off. then remove the serp belt and wiggle the pulley off. then using a 24mm or 15/16 wrench remove the pressure line from the pump. then remove the hose clamp from the other line and remove the hose from the pump. then just take the 2 14mm bolts holding the pump on out and you will have a pump in your hand. install in the reverse order.
